The BARC Westfield Sports Car Championship

Since 1991 the Westfield factory has run its own "Westfield Championship", in association with the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) and provides the perfect package for those who have always wanted to have a go, but have needed someone to give them a helping hand.

The Championship runs on the BARC Club meeting weekends and are mostly double header meetings with two 20 minute races and  one qualifying session.

"We believe no other race championship offers such a variety of opportunities to both novice and expert drivers alike, provides as much fun for as little cost and has such close racing"

The championship is run to a controlled specification based on the lightweight SE race chassis and body with only very limited modifications. The standard 1800cc Ford Zetec engine is used with twin carburettors, an ECU management system and Toyo control race tyres. In 2008 a new class A car was introduced based on the new Westfield AeroRace car with a 2.0 litre Zetec engine running to a tightly controlled specification. These two classes now compete together in one Cup Class as the performance is nearly identical plus the new for 2010 race academy.

The Westfield Race Academy is a uniquely packaged scheme aimed exclusively at
drivers new to motorsport. With a specially created race-chassied, road-legal,
150bhp, AeroRace 150Z and married this to an essential range of training, support
and race day services, all designed to take you from the armchair to the Grid.
With additional safety features built-in as standard and the ability to upgrade to
the Cup Class the AeroRace 150Z is everything you need from a race car – and of course, unlike most racers, you can even drive it to and from the track.

As you would expect with a championship like this there is a strong camaraderie between the racers in the paddock and you will always find a helping hand in the event of a problem. This racing is perfect for both the newcomer to circuit racing and experienced racers. It does not rely upon a large budget and close racing is ensured without placing a premium on expensive bolt-on parts or technical expertise. The cars are relatively unstressed due to the unmodified engine specification, providing reliability and low running costs.
