Catalytic Converters for 2009 "Many of the current drivers of 1800cc Zetecs have been asking how the implementation of Catalytic Converters will be applied to the Westfield Series in 2009" The MSA regulation for catalytic converters is as follows: "Exhaust catalytic converters must be fitted to all petrol engine production based saloon, touring and sports cars, including specialist production and kit cars manufactured after 31/12/99. They may also be specified in other formulae. Competitors are reminded of their obligation to maintain such equipment on a vehicle used on the highway where government legislation requires it." Mandatory for all newly registered championships from 1 January 2008, mandatory for existing championships and events w.i.f 1st January 2009. Assuming that the above regulation comes into force as planned then there is only a requirement to fit a catalytic converter. Therefore there is no need to install a fuel injection system on Class B cars from 2009. The current proposal for 2009 is for all Class B cars to be fitted with a standard catalytic converter which will be specified in the regulations. It will be compatible to run with carbs and the cost is likely to be of the order of £200. This would ensure a level playing field in Class B as far as cats are concerned. |
